As you will come to realise through our journey together I am a huge Disney Fan! A couple of months ago I was browsing through The Disney Store Website (as you do) and came across this Mickey Mouse Plate:
And what can I say, it was love at first sight!
But at £8.00 a plate it’s a little out of my price range, along with the bowls and cups and everything else in the range that I’d obviously have to get to match, it would all add up to a pretty hefty price tag! But I couldn’t stop thinking about them so what to do…
Make Them Of Course!
Now my plates are my no means perfect, but a bit more tweaking and I think I’ll get there!
The first thing to do was make the stencil – which took around 3 days of tweaking and getting it wrong and trying again but I got there!
I made the design using my Cricut Gypsy and various cartridges including the Mickey and Friends, Storybook and Accent Essentials to create the pattern within the Mickey Mouse Shape. I used vinyl to cut it out with and then stuck it to the plate and filled it in with Glass Paint Pens.
As you can see I got a little heavy handed on the right hand side and it turned into a Great Big Mess, however I was really happy with how the overall pattern turned out, it was just a case of getting my painting skills a little more up to scratch.
So I did another one using mostly Porcelain Paint Pens as they are slightly thicker and more opaque so there wasn’t as much to seep under the vinyl like my first attempt.
And as you can see from above it turned out much much cleaner, hooray!!
It is still by no means perfect, as some of the paint came off when removing the vinyl, but it is definitely a step in the right direction! I just need to decide what colours to do my final plates in now and then I might just be able to make myself some beautiful plates for a fraction of the price.
