I love it when two of my favourite things come together in perfect harmony and create something beautiful. In this case it would be Disney and Crafting combining and allowing me to create some Disney Inspired Mixed Media art pieces.
It’s a well known fact I LOVE DISNEY, it just makes me happy! So after becoming a little obsessed with Mixed Media having watched basically all of Gabrielle Pollacco’s You Tube Videos, which are just fascinating, trust me if you’re into Crafting as I am you will lose hours just watching this videos but I can assure you it is most certainly not time wasted, I decided I wanted to make some Mixed Media art pieces just for me and they just sort of turned into Disney ones. The mermaid piece in particular I followed Gabrielle’s mermaid tutorial.
I started with the Beauty and the Beast Inspired piece
My Cricut Disney Dreams Come True Cartridge assisted greatly in the creation of these pieces. I started by cutting the Beauty and the Beast castle shape out and mod podging it to the base (which is 8×8 if you wanted to know)
Then I cut out Mrs Potts and Chip, Lumiere and Cogsworth and Mod Podged them, as well as creating a stencil using my Cricut Gypsy and some acetate to spell out the words of the song Beauty and the Beast and using some homemade texture paste I to place random sections over the top with some other shapes, to add some added interest – I am very new to texture paste but oh my goodness I love it!
I then covered everything in a couple of layers of Gesso, then cut out a Rose Cover with acetate from the Cricut Cartridge placed it on the side and spritzed my board with some spritzes made from Distress Ink re-inker, perfect pearls and some water.
Which gave me a lovely white space to place to Rose into
I made the Rose and petals using Fimo Clay and placed it within the centre of the masked off area. I also made some little Fimo roses for the corner as well. I then cut out the quote using the Cricut, and adding some finishing touches of gold accents, some glitter glue around the case and a crystal at the top!
The beginnings of the Mermaid board began like this, with the Ariel castle and some bubble type texture effects, with the quote added using stickers. After this point I again gessoed everything so that it would be the same base.
I spritzed over everything again, made my fimo mermaid and coloured her so she would look like Ariel. Cut out a Sebastian and coloured him in with perfect pearls, added a shell and some pearls and went out the quite with some 3D writer paint.
And finally I did an Aladdin based one, I took no pictures of the process though oops.
I added some cut outs of Abu to the base and some texture paste, gessoed and spritzed. Made the lamp out of Fimo, cut out the Genie and coloured him in with perfect pearls and finished off by cutting out the quote, stamping with perfect medium and going over with perfect pearls and finally finishing with some glossy accents.
And taa daa – all finished
Hope you all like!
